Society Outing 2009
On Saturday 5th December, Glenelly Historical Society visited 'Travel in Time', an event organised by their colleague and committee member, Ivan Minnis, coordinator of N. Ireland Archaeology Forum. The roadshow exhibition promotes Northern Ireland's heritage and the work of archaeologists.
Ivan, together with a team of volunteers had transformed a formerly vacant shop unit into a highly appealing array of exhibitions, displays and interactive activities. Glenelly's younger members in particular, welcomed the opportunity to meet with those from the archaeolgy world, whilst being allowed to experience hands on activities for themselves. Amongst others, there were exhibitions from Queen's University, Belfast, Northern Ireland Archaeological Consultancy, Archaeological Development Services, Enniskillen Museum and the Navan Centre. Local people were particularly impressed by the enthusiasm of a host of volunteers, who were keen to engage with their visitors.
The Society was encouraged to undertake an archaeology project of some scale at local level, in the near future.
